Creative Arts

Oxfordshire Schools Dance Festival

Around 30 KS2 pupils took part in the Oxford Schools’ Dance Festival on Wednesday 6th December 2017 at the New Theatre, Oxford. Over 20 schools from across Oxfordshire took part.  This year’s performance was Disney-themed so Great Milton C of E Primary School’s dance took the songs from Pirates of the Caribbean, Brave & Star Wars! After weeks of rehearsal and a few nerves on the day, our children gave a wonderful performance, of which we are very proud. Phoebe says “I loved the dancing but everything that went with it was fun too: the make-up, the costumes, and performing at the New Theatre….” Dance forms an important part of our P.E & Creative Arts Curriculum, so we were delighted to take part in this project again this year.

Music

On Friday 1st December 2017, we were delighted to welcome once again The Carducci Quartet to Great Milton Primary School. Nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award, “Getting the Quartet Bug” is an exciting, interactive workshop which enthralled our children!

Those pupils in school learning the violin and cello learnt more about to Chamber music. The quartet fired them with enthusiasm, it was a stimulating hour of fun, inspiration, audience participation and glorious music.
Pupils learned a rumba piece and a beautiful Christmas piece which they performed for the rest of the school. We were all amazed that they learnt what they did in the time they had!

Thank you to the Carducci Quartet for inspiring our children to learn more about music, maybe to take up a string instrument and most importantly, for presenting classical music in such a dynamic and fun way!

Jack & The Beanstalk – visiting Pantomime

M&M Productions came in again on Wednesday 29th November 2017 with their wonderful visiting pantomime. This year, it was Jack & The Beanstalk and the performance certainly got Christmas going! The school rang out with “Its behind you!” and “Oh no he isn’t!” and some very current dance moves could be spotted too! Thank you very much to M&M Productions once again for providing fabulous entertainment that the children chatter about for months afterwards!

Creative Arts are so very important to us. We involve the children in drama and music opportunities whenever possible. During the year, the children take part in various performance opportunities – KS2 and KS1 Wheatley Partnership Music Festivals, Nativity performances, Players and Performers Concert, Class Sharing Assemblies, class drama performances and the year ends with a big Class 6 End of Year Production. We also perform at the Neighbour’s Hall for our older village community and in church at significant events such as harvest.

We enjoy theme days – Harvest Day, Christmas Maths Day as part of our Christmas art week, European Language Day – in which we find exciting, creative and practical ways of learning. We have a designated kitchen area for DT and cooking – delicious aromas drifting through school are a regular occurrence!

We offer a variety of musical tuition opportunities – piano, recorder, guitar, ukelele and violin lessons amongst others. We use the services of the following providers:
