Barn Owls Y2

Island Hopping

 Welcome to year 2.

Hello Barn Owls, I hope you all enjoyed the summer holidays and the sun not shining very brightly did not stop you from having lots of great fun.

I am very excited to be on this year 2 journey with you and I am looking forward to you blowing me away with your enthusiasm and love for learning.

Barn Owls can arrive at school from 8:45 to 9:00am, please enter via the green gate. At 3:30pm we will be waiting in the playground for our grown-ups to collect us.

This week:

English - we will be writing descriptions of Grandad's island.

Maths - we will be sorting objects using venn and carroll diagrams.

Spelling - our focus will be on our individual spelling words.

Useful Information

PE

During the term, the children will develop their tennis skills with Neil. PE will be on a Friday afternoon. Trainers, shorts/jogging bottoms, T-shirt and a jumper will be needed as the children will be outside. Please make sure that shoulder length hair is tied up, earrings are either taped or taken out and no jewellery is worn. The children need to come to school dressed in their PE kits. Please send in another set of clothes if the weather forecast predicts a likelihood of rain.

Homework

A piece of English or Maths homework will be given each week along with either a list of spellings or a spelling activity. For the first term, handwriting will be the English homework focus. Sometimes the homework will be connected to our Topic work to incorporate the creative curriculum. Spellings are individual to your child and are chosen by a diagnostic spelling assessment and through their written work. Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday.

Break and Lunchtime

The children will spend their morning break on the playground with the other children. During the afternoon we will spend our break time either in the playground with Tawny Owls or in the Science area on our own.

At lunchtime the children will go straight to the hall at 12 o'clock to eat their lunch and then spend time on the playground/field. Please send your child to school with a named water bottle and if they are having packed lunch their lunchbox and containers should be named too.

The playground can become muddy so it is preferable that all children have a pair of named wellies in school.

Miss Woods will be in Barn Owls on a Wednesday morning. The children will be completing maths activities set by Mrs Green and then Miss Woods will teach them music. This term the focus will be learning songs from Scotland and playing the rhythm on a glockenspiel.

For more information about our learning this term, please see the newsletter and topic web above.

If you have any questions, please email the office or speak to me at the end of the day.

With kind regards

Mrs Green
