We will start our new whole class guided reading on Monday 7th November, using the book, "The Hodgeheg" by Dick King-Smith. Each child will need to bring their named copies into school by then and keep them in school.

 Well Done Barn Owls!

Our journey together in year 2 has started very well and it has been fantastic getting to know the lovely Barn Owls all over again.

They have ALL been working really hard and we have seen some wonderful enthusiasm for learning from everyone along with many other wonderful examples of friendship, inclusivity, perseverance and kindness.

We very much look forward to welcoming you into our classroom in early October, as mentioned in our latest school newsletter and showing you around!

Our school has recently invested in a new phonics scheme that key stage one will be following daily.  Some information will be added at the bottom of this page and details will follow on a parents meeting about this.  The children have been very engaged with this interactive scheme which is developing their phonics knowledge further.

We will be sending your child with a home learning folder today (16th September). Information will also be included at the bottom of this page.

We thank you for your continued support and as always if you have anything you would like to discuss please speak to me or drop me an email via office@gmilton.org.

Many Thanks

Nicola Bennett

Dear Families,

We hope that you have had a wonderful Summer and look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 6th September.  More information will follow soon about our year 2 curriculum.

During term one the children will be taking part in P.E with Tom Sykes each Thursday and should come to school wearing their outdoor P.E kits.  In addition the children will also be having Neil, our tennis coach, on a Friday and will require their outdoor sports kit too.

Please send your child with a named water bottle each day and an appropriate outdoor coats/sunhats.  Please name all of your child's uniform.

We are very excited to inform you that during this academic year we will be welcoming an associate teacher, Lauren Philp, to work with us in Barn Owls. Lauren has a degree in speech therapy and recently has enjoyed working in a specialist school. Lauren has taken the decision to train in Primary Teaching and we are delighted to support her in this journey.  Lauren will be sending three days a week with us in Barn owls with the remaining part of her week receiving training for her PGCE and QTS!

 Welcome to the Summer Term.

Our topic this term is. . .

The Royal Owls

Hello Barn Owls, I hope you all had fun celebrating the

Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

This is the very last term of our year 2 journey together. We will be consolidating all we have learnt in preparation for flying off to the Snowy Owl's nest.

Barn Owls will continue to arrive at school from 8:45 to 9:00am,  via the main gate. At 3:30pm we will be waiting in the playground for our grown-ups to collect us.

Miss Woods will be in Barn Owls on a Wednesday morning. The children will be focusing on spelling and then Miss Woods will teach them music.

This week:

Due to the extreme heat forecast over the next 3 days, the children may wear cool, cotton clothes and sandals. Remember to bring in your refillable water bottle

Over the next 3 days we will be using needles and thread to create designs on our tye-dye panels we made on Friday and completing our science work. These activities will allow us to stay sat down so that we are not using excessive energy.

To help us keep cool, not only will we have our water bottles readily available but we will also have our sandpit container filled with cold water so that we can paddle our feet to keep us cool.

There will be no PE this week.

Useful Information

PE

During this term our PE with Mr Sykes on a Wednesday afternoon (athletics) and a Thursday morning with Mr Northway (throwing, hitting and catching skills). Trainers, jogging bottoms/shorts, T-shirt and a jumper will be needed. The children need to come to school dressed in their PE kits. Please send in another set of clothes if the weather forecast predicts a likelihood of rain. Hopefully the sunshine will reappear so sun hat, sun cream and a water bottle would be essential

Please make sure that shoulder length hair is tied up, earrings are either taped or taken out and no jewellery is worn.

Homework

A piece of English or Maths homework will be given each week along with either a list of spellings or a spelling activity. For the first term, handwriting will be the English homework focus. Sometimes the homework will be connected to our Topic work to incorporate the creative curriculum. Spellings are individual to your child and are chosen by a diagnostic spelling assessment and through their written work. Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday.

For more information about our learning this term, please see the newsletter and topic web above.

If you have any questions, please email the office or speak to me at the end of the day.

With kind regards

Mrs Green

Mrs Hawksworth
