Barn Owls Y2

 Welcome to the Summer Term.

Our topic this term is. . .

The Royal Owls

Hello Barn Owls, I hope you all had a fun filled Easter break.
The sunshine was very welcome too.

I am very excited about continuing our year 2 journey together and our learning this term.

Barn Owls will continue to arrive at school from 8:45 to 9:00am,  via the main gate. At 3:30pm we will be waiting in the playground for our grown-ups to collect us.

Miss Woods will be in Barn Owls on a Wednesday morning. The children will be focusing on Topic lessons  and then Miss Woods will teach them music. This term the focus will be on singing songs to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

This week:

English - Wse will continue to develop our reading skills and research information on night time animals.

Maths -This week we will be applying the strategies for all 4 operations to help us solve word problems.

Spelling - our focus will be on year 1 and year 2 common exception words.

Our Spring Fair is this Saturday (14th)

Useful Information

During the term PE with Mr Sykes will be on a Wednesday afternoon (outdoor). Trainers, jogging bottoms, T-shirt and a jumper will be needed. The children need to come to school dressed in their PE kits. Please send in another set of clothes if the weather forecast predicts a likelihood of rain. Hopefully the sunshine will continue for a little longer so sun hat, sun cream and a water bottle would be essential

Please make sure that shoulder length hair is tied up, earrings are either taped or taken out and no jewellery is worn.

Forest School

On Thursday afternoons, for the first five weeks of term, the children will be participating in Forest school activities with Mrs Howlett. The children will need to come to school wearing appropriate clothing on this day.

A piece of English or Maths homework will be given each week along with either a list of spellings or a spelling activity. For the first term, handwriting will be the English homework focus. Sometimes the homework will be connected to our Topic work to incorporate the creative curriculum. Spellings are individual to your child and are chosen by a diagnostic spelling assessment and through their written work. Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday.

For more information about our learning this term, please see the newsletter and topic web above.

If you have any questions, please email the office or speak to me at the end of the day.

With kind regards

Mrs Green
