Welcome back Barn Owls!
This term we have lots of exciting new adventures to dive into.
Our theme this term is ‘Barnaby Bear travels the World’!
English: In English we have started the term pretending to be Barnaby Bear by sending postcards and writing fact files from our many travels. We will be moving on to looking at two fantastic texts, 'The Ugly Five' and 'Handa's Surprise', before exploring the Easter story through our English.
maths: This term in maths, we are going to begin with looking at fractions and finding halves of odd and even numbers as well as identifying different fractions of shapes. Then we are going to move on to using the multiplication symbol and learning how to write multiplication sentences using our 2s, 5s and 10s. This term, we will also be exploring data and how to collect and present this in tally charts, pictograms and block graphs. At the end of this term, we will learn all about the division symbol and how we can relate this to multiplication and our 2s, 5s and 10s.
Science: In science this term, we will be doing 'Big Science'. This is a fun and creative science project where the class will have the opportunity to create, plan, investigate and present their own investigations.
PE: if the weather looks particularly wet and miserable on a PE day, please also send your child in with a change of clothes (including shoes) - just in case!
I am really looking forward to the learning adventures we have planned for this term and cannot wait to see how high the Barn Owls fly in their learning.
Welcome to Autumn Term 2!
This term we are starting the new and very exciting topic of 'Explorers'. I am looking forward to discovering, with the Barn Owls, how Neil Armstrong reached the moon and how Christopher Columbus journeyed across the seas.
Alongside this, we will be looking even further into the different properties of materials in science, deepening our understanding of 2-digit numbers in maths and we will be starting English exploring the text 'Journey' by Aaron Becker.
Please find this term's new homework grid below and this week's maths and spelling activities too.
Please be aware that some of these notices may change in the coming weeks but I will make sure to inform you of any tweaks:
I cannot wait to see what exciting, new adventures this school year brings!
