Creative Arts

Creative Arts are so very important to us. We involve the children in drama and music opportunities whenever possible. During the year, the children take part in various performance opportunities – KS2 and KS1 Wheatley Partnership Music Festivals, Christian Aid Big Sing, Nativity performances, Players and Performers concert, Oxfordshire Schools Dance Festival, class sharing assemblies, class drama performances and the year ends with a big Year 6 End of Year Production, the latest being the musical "Annie". We also perform at the Neighbour’s Hall for our older village community and in church at significant events such as harvest and Christmas.

We enjoy theme days – Harvest Day, our Christmas Art Week, European Language Day – in which we find exciting, creative and practical ways of learning. We have a designated kitchen area for DT and cooking – delicious aromas drifting through school are a regular occurrence!

We offer a variety of musical tuition opportunities including piano and violin. Boreal Owls currently enjoy free weekly guitar lessons with the Oxfordshire County Music Service: Oxfordshire Music Service.  We also use the services of the following providers:

Oxfordshire Schools Dance Festival 2019

Around 30 KS2 pupils took part in the Oxfordshire Schools’ Dance Festival on Thursday 12th December 2019 at the New Theatre, Oxford. Over 20 schools from across Oxfordshire took part. Great Milton C of E Primary School chose to create a piece of dance to "Dance Monkey" by Tones & I.  After weeks of rehearsal and a few nerves on the day, our children gave a wonderful performance, of which we are very proud. Phoebe says “I loved the dancing but everything that went with it was fun too: the make-up, the costumes, and performing at the New Theatre.” Dance forms an important part of our P.E & Creative Arts Curriculum, so we were delighted to take part in this project again this year.
