PE Funding at Great Milton C of E Primary School

The government has provided additional funding for the academic years 2015 to 2016, to improve provision of PE and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and is ring-fenced; which means it can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

We have had the freedom to choose how to spend this additional funding on improving the provision of PE and sport at our school.

Great Milton C of E Primary School understands the importance of physical activity and has put several measures in place over the last two years to provide good quality PE teaching, resourcing the subject and also promoting outdoor education in our grounds and wider community.

Measuring the impact

During the academic year we will continue to monitor the progress of all pupils through teacher assessments throughout the year and lesson observations. This will inform future decisions about PE and sports provision at Great Milton.

Having developed our scheme of work for PE and assessment, we will continue to monitor impact on children’s learning, participation and enjoyment in PE and Outdoor Adventurous Activities.

Planning ahead (2016-2017)

  • Ensure continued use of Peers Study Centre by all classes throughout the year, building on the team building skills and problem solving already in place.
  • To review current swimming provision to ensure all children reach a basic swimming level by the end of Key Stage 2.
  • Identify any CPD and aim to facilitate future training eg Forest Schools (particularly with new staff starting in Sept 16)
  • Lesson observations and monitoring of PE skills, continuity and progression.
  • Audit of clubs in place and any additional we can accommodate eg boxercise, dance club
