The teaching of PE is led by teaching staff as well as a specialist PE Teacher and coaches. Coverage of the PE key objectives and core skills are ensured by the use of progression maps through each element and the use of the Raw Marsh scheme.
From Year 3 – 6, children will go for swimming lessons taught at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre on a rota basis throughout the year.
We are very fortunate in having a tennis coach, Neil James, funded by a local charity, The Sheppard Trust, who comes in once a week to give tennis lessons to children in Key Stage 2 on a rolling programme.
Using government funding, we have invested in creating an Outdoor Orienteering Course and a climbing wall, customized with our school emblem, the owl!

We have the wonderful opportunity to use a local Outdoor Education Centre, The Jack Peers Centre, to help us fulfill the Outdoor Adventurous Activities and Problem Solving areas of the PE curriculum.
The Year 3 children have an annual team-building sleep over at The Peers Centre during the summer term and all year groups visit the centre regularly for a day of outdoor learning & fun.
Our Year 4 and 5 children visit residential adventure centres for 2-3 nights bi-annually where they participate in outdoor adventure activities. This academic year, our children will be attending the PGL Liddington Residential Centre in Swindon in March 2018.
We also host a “Key Stage 2 Camp Out” in our school grounds every September as an opportunity for families to get to know each other and catch up following the summer holidays.
Eagle Owls & Hawk Owls recently took part in an indoor athletics competition at Wheatley Park School. They had a great day, were warmly hosted by former Great Milton School pupils and were noted for their team spirit and great sense of competition. Well done everyone!
Eagle Owls (Y5) recently joined other schools in the Wheatley Park Schools Partnership to develop their netball skills with Year 9 pupils. Everyone had a very positive experience and our children were great ambassadors for our school once again. Well done all!
Hawk Owls (Y6), five Eagle Owls (Y5), Mrs Nicholls and Mrs Dickson swam 789 lengths between them last week (November 2017) at Blackbird Leys pool for one of our school fundraising activities. This distance is an incredible 19, 725 metres, almost double the target they set for themselves! Amazing! Thank you to all of those who have sponsored the children for Mia’s wheelchair cause. We will update you on the amount raised as soon as we know it. There is still time to donate at Justgiving Get Mia Going
